My KL trip..alone :)

I had this wacky idea last week, as Dear was traveling to New Delhi, i will be alone for my birthday. So i decided to take a trip to somewhere and just spend my birthday there. I chose KL as i been there before and dun require me to spend too much.

And as i'm travelling alone, KL is quite safe for me to move around. So i booked the hotel room and coach at a short notice and off i went. :)

Servicing

The family's car has exceeded the 150000km mark, yes it travelled a lot yet its only 3 years old.

So many things to do for this servicing and brought it to my workshop at AMK autopoint.

The car hoisted up.

The checklist:
Change engine oil
Replace oil filter
Replace spark plugs
Change transmission fluid
Flush radiator and change coolant
Bleed and replace brake fluid
Replace water pump belt
Replace water pump pulley

One more thing to the list is replace fuel filter but as i've to rush off for my appointment, i told the mechanic Ah Chye to do that another time when i'm free to drop by at the workshop.

The fuel filter being removed and cleaned, but no time to replace.

Dinner with Dear

Met Dear after work on Monday, we walked from her office at Robinson road to Central at Clake Quay. We settled for japanese ramen at this nice place overlooking the Singapore river.

This is a Wafu Pizza, super thin cracker with teriyaki chicken glazed with mayonnaise

We had ramen too but we didn't take pictures.

Going to do one CNY post, with various pics taken during the holidays.

Had this fantastic "Pen Chai" and first round of "yusheng" at Crystal Jade in Changi airport T3.

We saw this guy at Causeway Point after we watched " The Wolfman".

Didn't take many pics on the actual day of CNY, stayed home most of the time throughout " Chu yi to Chu San".

Celebrated my father's birthday at the Chinese Swimming Club's Tung Lok, its a double celebration as my father was born during CNY.

Took this at the lobby, looks like a Christmas tree but for chinese :)

The new addtion, Maximus from my 2nd sister :) Such huge eyes, so cute.

After the dinner, the staff at Tung Lok lined up and sang birthday song to my father, in english, chinese and even the cantonese version. The chef wrote this in the kitchen and served it up together with the cake i bought.

Bought a white 3GS iphone for dear for her birthday and valentine gift :)

And in the end, dear bought me a black one for valentine's day! Now we have the same phone, black and white.

These are not the actual phones we have as i cant take a pic of them cause the cam is on the phone itself.

So far so good for me, was worried that i may not transit well over to a full touchscreen.

Visited PG again for a track day with Mel and frens :)

I didn't drive but with my own helmet, i got to take a ride in the cars round the tracks. Great fun seeing engines screaming and tires screeching.

Dear had some invitation cards to go on top of the Swissotel, the helipad!

The view and wind on the top is just fantastic.

On the helipad we were given free drinks as well.

I wonder how fun will it be to fly a kite at the top :) Something i will never get to try.

When night comes, the lights of our city's landscape is so beautiful.

Dear and i on the roof :) New Asia Bar was alright, but too crowded for comfort so we left for Insomnia at CHIJMES for some drinks and food, not to forget the live band.

Installed these 3 gauges into the car to monitor the health of the engine.

It measures oil temperature, oil pressure and air vacuum. Hopefully before something happen i will know it earlier.

It does look nice by the way.

Dinner at the Sail

I got invited over to Michelle's place at the Sail just behind One Raffle's Quay. Its a very nice place, Mich rents the place together with her brother and they converted it into a dance and recording studio.

So with bare essentials in the kitchen as not much cooking is done there, i did simple Aglio Olio for everyone, Mich's dance students were there as well.

I don't drink, so the bottle of white wine was shared among Mich and Co.

Chicken Rice Lunch

Carter ask me out for lunch the other day. We chose our fave chicken rice at katong because it wasn't too far away.

I rank this as one of the best in my opinion :) It has my fave ginger dip for the white chicken, SCORE!

We ordered a mixture of roasted and white blanched chicken, the stall offers freeflow soup of the day for every customer as well as Ar Cha. For that day, its was Old Winter Melon Soup, NICE!

Today was a great day, spend it well with Dear.

Start by having breakfast at Long John Silver's, its very nice.

Than she came over to my place to watch HK drama while i prepared sandwiches for my niece's birthday.

At 4pm we went over to my sister's home at punggol, dropped off the food and went to Changi V to have an early dinner as we were planning to catch AVATAR at downtown east.

We reached downtown east around 630pm and we were left with only the front 2 rows, no choice but to take it as we planned to watch this movie for a long time.

So finally, we got to watch this in 3D

Overall, good plot with fantastic CG. But as for me, i kinda struggled through, I became giddy and nauseous, perhaps 3D isn't for everyone.

We went to wash the car at SPC before heading home.

We walked around looking at the various food outlets, i must say there's some really good ones here. In the end we settled for this neat place selling affordable yet tasty pasta.

Dear had Spicy Marinara, for me Prawn Aglio and we shared a side dish of Deep Fried Shitake Mushrooms.

Kel suggested this place to eat on sat called Go!Go!Curry!. A concept from japan which is basically curry rice.

As its newly opened, there's 50% off everything on the menu. So we ordered the most expensive set and shared among us.

This is the "Grand Slam" - It has a layer of japanese rice at the bottom covered with japanese curry sauce. On top are pork cutlet, chicken cutlet, prawn tempura, sausages, hard boiled egg and salad.

Doesn't look much from this side view.

Its served on this huge bowl which is almost impossible to finish on oneself. I shared mine with Jenn, Minkuan with 2 other girls, kel with sinman but Valor managed to finish it on his own!

This was my Grand Slam, almost done and these were Jenn's hands to show the size of the bowl :)

Finished! Super full after this, stuffed silly.

Its Christmas yea!!

Woke up to attend the morning service at church but had to go off a bit earlier cause my sister ordered a honey ham from me.

But before i do that, didn't get to eat anything for lunch so i cooked a plate of Aglio Olio with whatever leftover i have from last night's Christmas dinner at home.

So now the ham, after the roasting and honey glazing with some decor now it looks fantastic :)

Every year my relatives come to my house to enjoy Christmas dinner.

This year's menu is quite extensive which includes the traditional roast turkey, a super 4kg gammon ham and roasted pork belly roulard among other things.

I did this, Potato Au Gratin instead of the regular mash potato. Nicer and much more interesting.

Went to meet mel today, he needs help as his car needs to go workshop yet he has to work as well so got me to drive his car.

Mel's family business is selling seafood at circuit road wet market. When i got there i saw these huge sea prawns - " So Luo"

These normally are quite small but today, these huge ones are available! :)

Got 1kg of these for dinner.

Look how big they are, bigger than my palm!

I chose to pan grill these, made a slit at the back, stuffed them and skewer through.

Onto the pan, sear on each side than cover with a lid :) After a few mins its done!

Wanting to rotate my tyres for some time since its gettin noiser and wear is visible,but can't find a day that i can use the car for a day since my father uses it most of the time.

( Tyre rotation meaning switching rear tyres to the front and vice versa.)

Went to Mel's tyre shop to do it but..

Alas!

When the mech removed all the tyres and placed them on the tyre rotation machine, i was told the tyres have been damaged and warped. I saw the wobble too. Have to change all four tyres.

Met my best fren Mel last week for a trip to ride the Luge at Sentosa. Mel finally gt gf ready!!! So happy for him..a fine young lady he's gt :)

I had to go to AIA to settle my insurance policy in the afternoon before taking a train to meet up mel and his gf at Taka's Sushi Tei. After that we went to pick up Winnie aka Dear from work before heading to Sentosa.

I always think mel look like bomber man everytime he put on a helmet :)

During a trip to Cold Storage supermart, decided to treat myself when i saw these at the cold display.

I bought crackers, Boursin garlic cream cheese and Prosciutto de Parma Ham and came out with these little Canapés.

I made quite a number as a snack and jus ate the lot. SUPER GOOD!

Was at work during the week when James ( a pastry chef who used to own a bakery at Beach road) came to the stall with a couple of chefs. They were chilling with beer and brought their own food.

One of which is smoked salmon and James gave me some slices so i decided to do a Smoked Salmon Pizza at my stall.

Was thinking whether to purchase a new mp3 player these days but since i'm not a frequent user..i was not looking at something expensive like an Ipod even though it did crossed my mind..

Was walking around during my break at work and saw this..the tinest mp3 player that is veri affordable..

This little thing has an expandable memory but it comes with a 2G Micro sd card which is fine for me..the player measures jus 2cm x 2cm x 2cm..charges for an hour and has a 6hr playback..

After charging and placed some songs..tried it out and its really not bad..i mean for the price i paid for this i can't ask for more..its cool and i'm happy with it

During one of my breaks at work, i went to Illuma again.

The day was too darn hot and the aircon there is so shiok :)

Another idea was to check out some of the shops since i didn't gt to the last time.

I walked past this shop which sells shoes. Looks expensive and was kinda shy to go in. So i jus looked at the window display and saw the price tag, and i was surprised its actually very affordable.

I went in to take a look and chose a pair of brown leather shoes which i lacked.

It looks better than in the pic. For only $38.90, what a steal. Cheaper than Bata.

I reckon its an Evo 4 converted into an Evo 5 but i might be wrong.

Cool car from the 90s crazy auto era of Japan. Probably the only one left in Singapore, i love cars from that time, sad Japan dun makes cars like these anymore.

During weekdays at work, i go for a split shift from 3pm to 530pm, after which i will head back to my stall and prepare for dinner crowd.

The new mall Illuma at bugis was open for sometime yet i haven't drop by to take a look, therefore during one of my breaks decided to check it out.

Moment i step in i was stunned by how cold the aircon is. Hmm perhaps cause its new.

Anyway i walked around the area, kinda big with many FnB outlets and some retail shops. There's a Coffee Bean overlooking the street outside, nice view.

So i ordered a large Hot Double Chocolate with Marshmallows.

New Upgrade - AVI

Went to get these couple weeks back

Traded in my cardian speakers for these 6.5inch AVI speakers. Cool.

As these speakers are bigger and pack more punch, sound proofing is required.

The AVI tweeters mounted at the dashboard.

After its done, the sound guy had to tune the sound coming out from the speakers. Sitting in the car with him, my mind jus went "fwah!"

Monday not working, so decided to take the plunge and went for this :)

Sound system set up for my car by JM Audio at kaki bukit.

Alpine retractable head unit

When i off the engine and walk away, the head unit can retract and is folded away nicely

I've a pair of tweeters installed at the front near the windscreen, here's one the other is at the otherside.

The speakers are changed to 5 inch cardian which i can't take any pics since its inside my door.

And inside the boot there's these....

10 inch subwoofer with 2 amplifiers, the one on the left with lights is for the woofer, whereas the one on the other side is for the front speakers.

Took 3 guys 4 1/2 hours to strip my car and do the various wiring and installation. After that had to fetch my sister home and was smiling all the way. Love the new sound.

Wasn't so busy at work so to kill time, did some simple hors d'oeuvres with what i have at the stall. Baked them in the oven couple of mins and here's what i got..

Been a while since i last did sumthing in my kitchen. Due to my work i can't seem to find the energy to but today since its my off day, my mum bought white prawns and told me to prepare them for my sister who is coming home for dinner.

So with the prawns i did this..

Simple and nice..the white prawns has its natural sweetness so with some butter and garlic..everythin blends in nicely

Went around during my free time at work, walked to parklane and got this as a free gift from my purchase.

I tried to open it up further and could really see how compressed it is.

My pizzeria at Golden mile has a nice stall just next door. They offer $2 chicken rice which is a rarity these days in the midst of various inflation and price increase. Drumstick with rice is just $2.50.

The rice is less oily than many and the blanched chicken is tender.

Neat meal. Cheap and fuss free.

Today i received a SMS from a certain Doctor who happens to be a food blogger as well. He is Dr Leslie Tay, the blogger behind ieatishootipost. He walked past my stall sometime back and gave it a try. He ordered a 12inch hawaiian and went on to snap some pictures of the pizza, the stall and myself.

For those who think I've M.I.A, I'm busy at work at my own little pizzeria aka R.O.C Pizza. R.O.C stand for "Relax One Corner" and this name came about cause my stall is at a quiet corner in Golden Mile Food Centre.

Each pizza is made to order and hand rolled myself. Each is thin crusted or cracker crusted as some might call it. Cause of that there's an average waiting time of 15mins. This gets longer if I'm busy as each pizza gets my up most attention. But I'm sure at the end of the wait one will not be disappointed.

The thin crust and melted cheese on top the various toppings.

I have the usual Hawaiian and others worth trying especially the Seafood

So i wun be updating my blog any sooner as i'm dead tired after work. Pls come and support me if you can. Cheers

Thanks to everyone i was fooled. I was lead into a surprise birthday party that i was unaware of. Everyone acted so well and also the fact i'm quite gullible at times.
Thanks guys for the wonderful memory and Dear and mel for planning most of the stuff.

After making a wish and blown out the candles,i was blindfolded and had to locate a piñatas somwhere in the room and given only a chopstick to smash it.

Two little ones came into my life not long ago, kept them in a cute little cage and realised it was too cramp for them, got dirty easily and attracted ants. So decided to put them into a new home. Did a search on the net and a fish tank is actually the right place to keep these little ones.

And to my good fortunes, in a random conversation with Zhao, he used to keep fish and have an empty tank lying around his house. So i asked for it and he happily obliged. Went with dear to his house at night to pick up the tank.

After cleaning it up and placing the toys inside. Here it is.

Caught this film with Dear at a special "comedy night" at GV Grand in Great world city.

"love me sexy....."

This was the first words which greeted me at the start of the show. Its a 70s disco track sang by Will Ferrell. Even thought I'm not a big fan of Will Ferrell's humour, i do enjoy his funny no sense comedy once in a while. Unlike Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Semi Pro had more storyline and plot.

Will Ferrell plays the owner/player/coach of the Flint Tropics basketball team. And upon the end of the film, i can actually feel the emotions Will Ferrell's character portaryed. To keep his team together and qualify for the NBA against all odds.

Overall a good film, a well sorted out comedy with drama in it too.

Send dear to night class at SIM, she was telling me that she might want to buy "sumthing" but dunno whether should go ahead not. So after dropping her off at class, i went around and found a shop that do sell it and went in to buy it for her.

Here they are....

Yes, by the cage you should know what i bought. Its a pair of female dwarf hamsters. After buying everything, i drove to a nearby petrol kiosk to park my car and prepare the hamsters' new home. Openin up the cage, i gave it a good wipe, lay the wood shavings and gave them a fresh dish of nuts,seeds and water.

The cute little ones after i put them in.

Enjoyin a nice snack.

Drove back to SIM and waited for dear to finish class, she was surprised to see the cage and was playing with them till we got home.

My fave dining spot at the moment. Nice healthy hearty soup with sandwiches at an affortable price.

The Soup Spoon,no i'm not paid to advertise for them but really is a nice place to dine. So far have been there 3 times this month for dinner. The mushroom soup is the main drawing factor for me, together with the selection of sandwiches to go with the soup. The sandwiches is special on its own, using traditional Italian Focaccia Bread.

Dear had her usual Minestrone soup and smoked salmon sandwich. I tried the Beef Goulash today instead of my fave mushroom soup, wanted to try sumthing new. It was alrite but i prefer the mushroom soup.

For the sandwich, i chose mushroom pesto. You might guess it now, yes i'm a mushroom lover. The mushroom pesto is a hit with the foccacia bread cause both are Italian.Olive oil, basil together with sauted mushrooms, a winning combination.

Mel was entering Malaysia to service his car, and since its goin to be a whole day wait at the workshop, he ask me to accompany him. His car took longer than we expected. They started work at 10am and finished at 730pm.

Dear asked me to source for an air filter for the QQ, but since there are no china made cars in malaysia, it might be hard to come by. But when we were at a certain workshop, i came across a certain "mushroom" direct air filter. Dunno whether this will fit so i asked the workshop owner can this install on any car. He say can so i decided to try it on my Vios first. Since its japanese and the parts are easier to find.

I bought the filter and a adaptor to link it to the Vio's intake system. Mel and i studied automotive when we were in ITE so we had some idea around a car. But to install a direct air intake is my first time. The workshop owner was kinda surprised when i said i'll install myself, i saved myself more than $100 because of that.

Back in singapore, i went to my home's carpark where the Vios is. Armed with simple tools, i opened the engine bonnet and studied the engine layout. I removed the original air filter, disconnect the airflow sensor and installed the adaptor. Than reinstall everything back and connect the shiney new air filter!

I stood there quite proud of myself. I done it!

But i had slight problem, i'm missing a metal bar to hold the air filter to the car body thus i had to improvise till i found it.

Next one, Dear's QQ! When i find the right size of adaptor for it.

Went over to dear's house today for lunch and watched "War Of The Worlds". It was a so so movie by the way, nothin special despite it being a Steven Spielberg film. Anyway this blog is not bout him, after the film i entered dear's room and she was jumping with excitment. I asked her wat's up and she said "carbaby is open today..can we go?"

Carbaby is a shop which sells all sorts of car acessories. Mostly cute ones which dear likes. So we drove her car down and dear was so happy and excited. Looking through the catalog with dazzling eyes. After choosing the one she wants, the shop staff helps us to install and took a pic as well. Apparently dear is the first one to choose this design so the shop owner wants to post it on the Carbaby's website.

That time of the year is here again..CNY!!!! Gong xi gong xi gong xi..the time of the year to receive money and eat lots of food to get fat.

Talking bout food..i've ready done 3 yushengs..and 2 steamboat dinners. And many pineapple tarts and bakkwa in between. Every year for my family reunion dinner..we always eat out but this time is different. My sisters are flying off to perth for a holiday so dinner will be at home. And since my mother said she doesn't cook on the first day of CNY..guess who has to do it..

My mother invited my uncles..aunties and cousins..approx 30 pax for the dinner and i'm tasked at hand to handle the food. So we had japanese steamboat - Shabu Shabu. With thinly sliced beef..pork..chicken..abalone and jumbo white prawns served with spicey dippin sauce. Everyone tucked in and ate for almost 4 hours.

Sepang track day

My good fren Mel asked me to accompany him to a track day held at the International Sepang track in Malaysia. Its a long journey approx. 4 hours to get there by car and he needed a back up driver. So here i am.

It was a track day for toyota vios and since they couldn't get enough cars, the organizer who knows mel invited him to join in. Mel managed to get Jeremy and Yimin to go together so we have two cars joining the vios for this event.

Yimin and i supported Mel and Jeremy by timing their laps and doing checks and simple maintainence for their cars.The weather was so hot and we had to stay hydrated. The day ended around 8pm and we drove to a nearby petrol kiosk to top up fuel before heading back home.

Choc Molten

Sometime ago..dear and i brought my mother to Vivocity to shop and have dinner, since my mum hasn't been there before. We went shopping at daiso, various boutiques and dinner at Modesto's. Prior to leaving, my mother wanted to have dessert and she specifically wanted Bakerinz.

So there we were, enjoyin our dessert and nice hot coffees. My mother ordered a warm choc cake, with melted choc flowing from the inside. Its a Chocolate Molten and i sense my mother will want me to try to reproduce it at home. And it did.

Pastry and baking isn't my forte, and i admit i really sucked at it. Give me a pan and wok and i'll cook for you, but baking requires a different game plan. And my culinary diploma doesn't cover much on baking as well. But still i gave it a go and it may not turn out to be as pleasing to the eye as Bakerinz's, the taste was there in my first trial.

Dun laugh, i did this in half an hour. But well, the looks sux though.

I dusted icing sugar and top it off with a scoop of cookies and cream ice-cream. You can see a bit of melted choc coming out from the side.

Watched this with dear at the cathay today. One of the best movie I've seen and i reckon this will be among the favorites at this year's Oscar and Academy awards. Denzal Washington and Russel Crowe can't go wrong. Its a long show but not boring, the plot is well paced with both action and words.

This movie has substance and weight and is highly recommended for those seeking first class acting, script and directing.

A trip to the new T3!

Our latest iconic building to be completed, the Changi Terminal 3 complex. Went with dear to check out the spanking new place. One word to describe when i stepped into the building..HUGE!

Seems bigger than the other 2 terminals and measures were taken to ensure this rank among the elite in the world.

Cool ceiling, able to let natural light in without the tropical heat!

We had dinner at a nice cosy Thai restaurant and wasn't expensive despite the fact we were dining at the airport. There's dian xiao er, earle's swensons, crystal jade and the upcoming sakai sushi teppen-yakki to name a few to allow us who r not taking a flight to enjoy good food. Big and nice to take a walk around, we were able to walk on a floor where u r able to oversee the insides of the transit lounge and customs.

My new Wechter 5711

Bought this around 2 weeks ago..my new wechter 5711 acoustic guitar..simply loving it. It has a solid spruce top and "open pores" rosewood body. Has a veri full tight and focused tone to it. Plays smoothly after action was done up to .12s by living strings..the place i bought the wechter. And also had a shadow preamp installed to give the guitar "plugged" capabilities. This guitar is veri well made and can be compared to the martin i bought not long ago which i had to return cause of some problems.
