Secret

Watched this with Dear yesterday after much contemplatin. As there's no other films to watch. I'm not a big fan of chinese films esp watchin it in the cinemas. Cause the vcd and dvd comes out veri soon and there's always the question bout the credibility of chinese films.

So this wasn't an exception too - Somemore its from Jay Chou. A singer / songwriter's directorial debut. So how good can this film get.


Suprisingly..this film is good!

Somehow it feels like a 2 hour music MTV at certain points of the film with a blend of music, love, friends, humour and artistry.

This film is veri watchable despite its Jay's first try at directing.

My Nephew Reuben

I have 3 sisters and all have kids and my fave is my nephew Reuben. He is less than a year old but is almost as tall as a two year old.Able to walk, make noices and is aware of happenings around him.

Cooking

Had a cooking class at my place with some guys from the cell - Minkuan, jacky, daowen and jenn.

The menu of the day is:

Mushroom Soup with Garlic Bread

Roasted Chicken thigh (char siew style)
Sweet corn, Kailan and carrots
Pilaf Rice

A simple 2 course meal. The people were more interested in making the garlic bread but it was a good time and everyone enjoyed the food (i hope). Till next time, pasta dishes as per request by them. So the next class we will be goin italian.

Skinwalkers

Caught this show with dear recently..we make a point to watch a movie once a week..and since this time there's no other show to watch (rush hour 3 watched last week) so i've no excuse but to watch this with dear :)

She likes this kinda of films..b4 i tell wat the show is about..here are some pics:







ok..base on these pics can u guess- there are guns,hot bods and cool hunks with model likeness. No? The fact is Skinwalker is actually a werewolf film. But if you watch the first half of the show, there are no werewolves or anything supernatural. Just four act cool blokes on harley davidsons riding into town and firing rounds at ppl.

So the story goes..the fantastic four whom are werewolves set out to hunt a 13yr old boy. Legend as it a half breed (Man & werewolf if you are wondering)has the power on his 13th birthday to end the curse of being a blood thirsty man wolf every full moon. So this kid, being a child and totally clueless, has bullets spraying at him and werewolves chasing everywhere. What a way to spent your birthday.

The werewolves hunting the boy dun wan the curse to be lifted as they lust after the hunt for blood like some drug junkie. Whereas the werewolves protecting the boy wan the curse to be broken so thet they can be free and be normal human beings. Hence the big fight at the end between the two sides.

During the film while i'm trying to digest whats goin on..sumthing caught my eye. And i can't help but bring this up. There was a movie - Pan's Labyrinth not too long ago. And there's a certain character in that film who bears a resemblance to Skin walkers. Can you guess it?

There..can you see it. The werewolves in Skinwalkers look like the whatever it is in Pan's Labyrinth!

Anyway whatver it is..the film was still entertainin with a fight between the werewolves in the end. Just that sometimes the film don't make sense. I will rate this as a cool B list film to watch. There are lots of action with desert eagles, berettas, shotguns, magnums etc etc firearms. Lots of bang with ppl dying with lots of blood.

Dinner at Sentosa Beach

Dear had an event goin on at Sentosa's Resort and Spa (Beaufort Hotel) so these 3 days she will be there..And since she's there..she suggested why not we have dinner at Sentosa. I was bit hesitant well first i'm not a tourist and i always feel everything there are overpriced.

But after some persuasion from dear..i decided to give in :)

So we decided on Sakai Sushi. ( which i was kinda surprised..there's one there?!)

I picked her up at the hotel lobby around 7pm and started driving around lookin for this elusive sakai sushi which i didn't knew existed. Looking at signs and maps we drove to the beach carpark located near siloso beach i think. And to my amazement..the entry is only $1! regardless of weekday or weekend..$1.07 after GST.

I parked the car and we started walking by the beach..We spotted millions of tourist!! All lining up to watch the new musical fountain by the beach. Its priced at $6. which was once free..

After askin some directions from staff..we were told the sakai sushi is jus located down the path. After 5 mins we found it! A veri nice air conditioned hut by the beach on the sand. So there we were..enjoyin the dinner and view too!

We strolled back to the car and still the waves of tourist are still there! We wanted to watch the musical fountain at first..but lookin at the crowd and the show timin..we decided to go home as dear is tired and have to wake up early the next day.

Past Music legends

As time goes by..fashion..technology and of coz music changes as well.. No music no life. So how has music from our father's time tranformed into sumthing we young ppl live to enjoy today. From Frank Sinatra,The Platters and Richie Valens to the now Linkin Park, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguileria etc etc..there's so many artists now to suit everyone's taste.

So what do i like? As for me..i feel music peaked during the 80s and 90s. Dun get me wrong..modern artist are good too but many owe their trade of style and music to the many musicians and singers of yesteryear.

Here are the examples:



Stevie Ray Vaughan (1954-1990)
One of the best guitarist ever to walk this earth. Stevie was a self taught guitarist who excelled in blues. He's idol was Jimi Hendrix, another guitar legend who too died young. Stevie or SRV to some carried on where Jimi Hendrix left off and brought guitar solo and wizardry to another level. SRV played mainly blues with his band - Double Trouble and was hailed by many as the best even by the great Eric Clapton.



The original Guns & Roses - Slash, Izzy Stradlin,Duff McKagan, Axl Rose and Steven Adler. Who can forget the band who gave us hits like Sweet Child Of Mine, Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City and many more! Formed in the late 80s the band was considered by many as the best ever rock band. Over the years GNR changed members stating drug problems and differences as some of the reasons. GNR is still around today with only Axl Rose left in the band. But it has lost the power and the essence that made it once the greatest. Slash and Duff Mckagan are now part of the band - Velvet Revolver.



Queen - an english band whose rock music spanned 3 decades in the 70s till the 90s as one of the most successful bands ever and can be placed in the same league as the beatles in my opinion. Hits like Bohemian Raspsody, We will rock You, One Vision, Princes of the Universe, I want to Break Free, We are the Champions and Bicycle. I can still remember rocking along with We will Rock You during my primary sch days in the bus. Everyone will jus sing along and thumped our feet to the beat. Those were the days.

Band members - Guitarist Brian May, singer Freddie Mercury,drummer Roger Taylor with bassist John Deacon.

Freddie Mercury died of AIDS in 1991 and even still, the band didn't really disbanded. The members remain a low profile and still perform to this day under the name - Queen.




You may not hear of them before but Skid Row was very famous as a heavy metal band in the late 80s to 90s. Vocalist Sebastian Bach, guitarists Scotti Hill and Dave "Snake" Sabo, bassist Rachel Bolan, and drummer Rob Affuso created incredible music that could never be surpassed. Teenagers just loved them for their bad attitude, rebellion, and especially for their hit "Youth Gone Wild," which was pretty much the national anthem of that year. Skid Row wrote other songs like "18 and life", I remember you, Wasted Time and In the Darkened Room to name some. Skid Row broke up in late 1997.

So to some of you out there whom may question or even argue with me the musicians i chose. Well i can't stop you and i can't possibly please everyone out there so i only list out four. And afterall all this is my blog so if you have a problem...SCRAM!!!Wahahahaa!!!! Nah i'm not that heartless..Anyone and everyone out there has their own unique taste of music. Whatever is it, i'm sure it has accompanied you through time like how music has brought me from child to adulthood. So to all there - ROCK ON!

Happy National Day!

Just another day its our nations 42nd Birthday



For all those out there who doesn't know the meaning of our nation's colours..here is it..just putting this post cause its national day and feelin kinda patriotic at the moment :)

The National Flag of Singapore is a symbol of statehood. It replaced the Union Jack, which had flown over Singapore for 140 years (1819-1959). It was the committee headed by Dr Toh Chin Chye, the then Deputy Prime Minister, which first conceived and created the flag. Together with the State Crest and the National Anthem, it was unveiled on 3 December 1959, at the installation of the new Head of State, the Yang di-Pertuan Negara, at the City Hall steps.

Upon independence in 1965, it was adopted as the National Flag.

Its Meaning:

Our National Flag consists of two equal horizontal sections, red above white.

In the upper left corner is a white crescent moon beside five white stars within a circle.

The features of the flag were not arbitrarily chosen.

Each feature has its own distinctive meaning and significance:

Red symbolizes universal brotherhood and equality of man

White signifies pervading and everlasting purity and virtue

The crescent moon represents a young nation on the ascendant

And the five stars stand for the nation's ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

Now how many of you actually knew that (wink wink*)

The Simpsons Movie- WATCH IT!!!!

After 18 seasons..year after year of makin kids and adults alike laugh out loud with originality and creativity..its finally here on the big screen.



If there is one flaw about the movie..its jus too darn short.

Come one..give me more!! Who can ever be sick of the simpsons..if thats you..you ought to be dragged out..tramped upon..stoned..shot dead..burned..and shot( wait i jus said that)
Anyway you get my point.



There are so many parts of the film you jus can't resist but let the inner child in you loose and laugh away. For example when Homer gt a pig and started singin the Spider man tune to the piggy! That is a classic for years to come!

Another is Bart's naked scene skateboarding downtown..the whole crowd in the cinema was in stiches when..well..when Bart's little precious was exposed.





I hope there's a sequel..i mean this is THE movie of the year i'm sure. How come Harry Potter can have seven films..LOTR three..Star Wars six..Die Hard four..
The Simpsons deserves the same treatment and respect with the other epic movies.
